Importance of Heidegger

Heidegger generated a formal philosophical system [ epistemology ] for discussing the human condition [ ontology ] as it appeared to many people in the 20th century.
He is widely credited with influencing existentialism.

Yeah, but wasn't he a Nazi?

True, Heidegger was a member of the party for a while, but this may have been the only way of preserving his career.
We do know that he was associated with Hannah Arendt, a prominent Jewish political theorist.
